TMNcorp Helps SAMHSA Launch the First Annual National Prevention Week

A new annual national health observance starts this week, and TMNcorp is getting the word out to Hispanics about it. Supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the new National Prevention Week (NPW) 2012, brings communities together through local events to focus on efforts to prevent substance abuse and promote mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being.

NPW 2012 began on May 20 and ends on May 26. The theme is “We are the ones. How are you taking action? “ to encourage individuals and communities to reflect on how changes, big and small, can promote a healthy lifestyle at home and in the community. Each day, communities and organizations nationwide will host events focused on a specific behavioral health topic, and the value of prevention to promote well-being.

A team of TMNcorp staff worked with SAMHSA as a subcontractor to Abt  Associates to develop Spanish-language resources that encourage Hispanics to get involved in the NPW celebration. These materials included:

  • A Spanish-language version of the “Prevention Pledge” to commit to a healthy lifestyle that can be printed and shared with other individuals and organizations.
  • A ready-made flyer and images that organizations can use to promote their own NPW events.
  • A series of media outreach templates to promote NPW and NPW events to print, broadcast and online media outlets.

The TMNcorp team also shared these resources with Hispanic bloggers to encourage them to promote NPW and share materials that can get more Hispanics involved in this important national health observance. So far, NPW’s been featured on the following blogs and portals:
